London Borough of Hackney and the emergency services (FOI-3939)
Message from Hackney Council
Dear ***** *****
Re: Freedom of Information Request.
Thank you for your request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, received 16 August 2019 Your request has been considered and our response is in bold below.
You requested the following:
Please disclose a copy of the procedure the Council has agreed with London Fire Brigade and/or Metropolitan Police for the Fire Brigade/Police/employees or agents for same to seek written permission from the Council to remove a tree in the event of a tree in Wick Woodland coming down on a vehicle or causing property damage to properties adjacent to the Woodland.
Please disclose preferably by PDF, all communications to the Fire Brigade in relation to the Public Spaces Protection Order in this area since the Council first conceived of the area having this Order.
The Council’s Response
There are no properties adjacent to Wick Woodland within tree-falling distance, therefore no procedure exists in relation to this. In an emergency situation where a tree fell onto a vehicle such that it presented an immediate public safety risk, trapped a person, or in some other way endangered life, the emergency services would not need to seek prior written permission to make the situation safe. There is no written agreement to this effect between the London Borough of Hackney and the emergency services, as none is deemed necessary.
Appeals & Complaints Procedure
If you are dissatisfied with this response and wish to appeal, please write to the Information Management Team and this will be dealt with through our Internal Review procedure.
