Thank you for your request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, received 8 November 2018. Your request has been considered and our response is in bold below.
Details of request
I am currently undertaking a research project at Newcastle University into the prevalence of basement extensions to residential properties across all the London boroughs. I am looking to record all the basement extensions that were approved planning permission between 1st January 2008 - 31st December 2019 in the Borough.
I appreciate that some within the Borough may be approved from the date of this request till the end of the year, so in the meantime would like to request details relating to planning applications that were approved for residential basement extensions to date since 1st January 2008.
Due to the nature of Hackney"s planning search portal, it is not possible to filter applications by approval (or refusal) and that filtering application by key word also does not give effective results. I would therefore greatly appreciate if you would be able to collate all the approved basement applications at the Borough during the said period onto a spreadsheet, information on application reference, address, proposal description and approval date would be sufficient.
The Council"s Response
The information you have requested is exempt under Section 21 of the Freedom of Information Act. Section 21 (2a) states that information which is reasonably accessible to the applicant (even if it is accessible only on payment) is exempt. This is an absolute exemption.
