Empty Residential Properties (FOI-4927)
Dear ***** *****
Re: Freedom of Information Request
Thank you for your request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, received 13 November 2019. Your request has been considered and our response is in bold below.
Your request reads as follows:
Please supply, without the address, simply how many properties you have available which has remained empty for 3-6 months +.
Upon clarification, it was established that you require the total number of all domestic properties in Hackney that have been empty for a period in excess of six months.
The Council’s Response
According to the Council Tax records as at 7 December 2019, there were 1,312 properties recorded as being empty for longer than six months. As already explained in a previous exchange of emails about this request, this figure includes properties designated as second homes, properties left vacant by people who have entered residential care, prison or who are deceased, and a greatly increased number of Council owned properties that are either undergoing or awaiting demolition as part of an ongoing programme of regeneration.
Appeals & Complaints Procedure
If you are dissatisfied with this response and wish to appeal, please respond to this email to request an Internal Review.
If you are still not satisfied following the Internal Review, you have a right to appeal to the Information Commissioner.
