You requested the following:
Local Welfare Assistance Scheme
I would like to request the following information relating to the local welfare support scheme which replaced the nationally administered social fund in April 2013.
If you cannot gather all of the information requested in the allocated time and cost, I would greatly appreciate that you prioritise responding to each question but for question 3 supply the information for 2017/18 only. I would appreciate if you could let me know if you do not have time to answer for the other years.
- Does your local authority have a Local Welfare Assistance Scheme in 2018/19? What is the budget for this?
The budget for Local Welfare Assistance in 2018/19 is £500,000
- Please give details of the qualifying conditions in 2018/19?
The scheme is open to all hackney residents with the exception of
- people under 16
- people who are subject to immigration control, including asylum seekers, people who have been refused leave to remain and those with no recourse to public funds
- people who have their daily living needs provided for them, i.e. a person in hospital or a care home, a prisoner, a member of a religious order, a person in relevant education, unless they are about to leave and return to the local community
- applications from full time students/student households will only be accepted in emergency cases and/or because of a disaster
- Please give details of the LWA scheme in each year that one has been running in the table below. Grants include the approximate value of any in-kind support excluding loans.
