Social care and hospital beds (FOI-2019)
Message from the customer
Dear Sir/Madam,
I would like to request some information under the Freedom of Information Act.
I am a freelance researcher and writer specialising in disability issues.
A report published by the Equality and Human Rights Commission earlier this year which uncovered a chronic shortage of disability-friendly homes across the UK. Some disabled and older people have been placed in hospital simply because no other suitable housing arrangements are available.
I have recently started to conduct some research on behalf of Inside Housing magazine into delayed hospital discharges and unnecessary admissions of local authority funded social care service users caused by a lack of appropriate housing accommodation.
Could please you advise me on following:
1. How many service users were placed in hospital beds because of a lack of suitable alternative housing, for each year between 2013/14 and 2017/18; and
2. The average length of hospital stays among these service users, for each year between 2013/14 and 2017/18?
Many thanks for your help.
Yours faithfully,
Message from Hackney Council
