Hackney Bumps skatepark in Daubeney Fields park (FOI-3378)
Message from Hackney Council
Dear ***** *******
Thank you for your request of 28th May. We apologise for the delay in issuing this response.
Your request
Do you have any information about the design or construction of the Hackney Bumps skatepark in Daubeney Fields park, on the Kings Park Ward in Hackney? postcode E9 5AW. I believe that it was built over a derelict paddling pool in 1986, but can"t find any information to back this up
Council"s Response
Daubeney Fields, along with the rest of Hackney Marshes was managed by the Greater London Council (GLC) until 31 March 1986, at which point it was handed over to the London Borough of Hackney. The skate park (bmx bowl) was already built by this point and is listed as one of the recreational facilities in the park in a 1986 report looking at the future strategic direction of Hackney Marshes.
Information on the construction of the facility may be held in the archives of the GLC, which are held by the London Metropolitan Archive (www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/things-to-do/london-metropolitan-archives).
I can confirm that the skate park / bmx bowl was built on top of an old paddling pool, which can be seen on the attached plan from the 1960s.
